Colon Care

Your Colon and Your Health

The Colon/Large Intestine is a muscular tube approximately 5-6 feet in length and has an average diameter of 2.5 inches. The Small Intestine empties the contents of digestion (chyme) into the Cecum or first portion of the Colon/Large Intestine, which is located in the lower right side of the abdomen. The ascending colon extends upward to the Hepatic Flexure which is near the Liver. Then the Transverse Colon crosses the body, from right to left, then descends downward. The Descending Colon goes down to the Sigmoid, Rectum and finally the Anus.

Contents of digestion are moved along by mass muscular movements (peristalsis), which is initiated by the nerves in the colon and stimulated by fiber/bulk. The main functions of the colon are absorption of water and nutrients and the formation and elimination of feces (wastes). Ideally the process of digestion takes approximately twenty-four hours, from ingestion of food, assimilation to defecation. In other words, within an hour or two of eating, the body expels the same meal of the previous day, i.e. eat breakfast, waste from yesterday's breakfast metabolization is expelled.  As the colon pushes semi-solid waste along, it transfers poisonous biochemical waste products such as ammonia, phenol, putrescin, sepsin, and cadaverin from the blood into the feces to be expelled.  If one eats 3 - 5 times a day, the colon should move accordingly. By doing so, toxic waste is not harbored in our Colon longer than intended. If not eliminated, it gets more putrid and toxic and is transported and absorbed through the Portal Vein System directly to the Liver and into our blood stream.

The mouth and the Colon/Large Intestine absorb more of whatever is in them than any other area of the body - 90%.  With inter-muscular injections, the body absorbs only 80-85% of the injected material. The Colon absorbs whatever liquids are in it. The Portal Vein System, which flows from the Large Intestine to the Liver - the main filter of the blood – also absorbs. Poor Colon hygiene causes the material to move sluggishly through the Colon and form a stagnant lining, known as plaque. This can remain for years, unless removed through complete cleansing programs. This encrusted plaque diminishes the effect of peristalsis. Thus, the waste that does move moves slower, allowing it more time to putrefy inside the body.

Most people are carrying ten pounds or more of this toxic waste in their Colon. Colons lined with poisonous plaque are trying to absorb water and nutrition through layers of built-up toxic waste. Thus sewer-like water and debris are being sent to and absorbed by the Liver, passing it directly into the blood that flows throughout the body approximately every five minutes.

Putrefication and fermentation produce more poisons, which the body must process and from which it must defend itself. Eating anything white - flour, sugar, dairy or alcohol, aggravates this condition. Thus the Immune System is strained unnecessarily.

Benefits of Colon Hydrotherapy

Healthy bodies, minds and emotions, are results primarily of having a healthy Colon/Large Intestine. When our Colon is clean and healthy, we experience the feeling of well-being. The consumption of devitalized, refined, and processed foods, high in saturated fats and low in fiber, contribute to many problems associated with the Colon/Large Intestine. The quality of food we ingest, our digestion and assimilation of food is significant to our health. Equally important is the elimination of undigested foods and other waste products. Waste materials, which are stagnant and sluggish in the Colon result in hardened poisons, increased bad bacteria and toxins lining the colon wall. The build up of these toxins prevents clean water and nutrient absorption.

Colon Hydrotherapy fosters therapeutic improvement of muscular tone, facilitates peristalsis and benefits the atonic (sluggish) Colon. The effects of a slow-moving, stagnant Colon can be manifested in the forms of constipation, diarrhea, halitosis (bad breath), skin blemishes, headaches, low back pain, lack of energy and lowered sex drive. Doing a good cleansing program can lead to the restoration of regular bowel function and better health, not simply the lack of symptoms you now may be experiencing.

Over 400 million dollars are spent annually on laxatives in the United States.  Every year 140,000 Americans are diagnosed with colon-rectal cancer.  44% of those will die as a result of colon diseases.  400% more people die of colon/rectal cancer than die of AIDS or breast cancer.  At least 2 million suffer from diseases of the Digestive System such as colitis, ileitis, diverticulitis,
100,000 Americans have a colostomy surgery (bowel movement elimination bag on the outside of the body) each year.

Regular, periodic cleansing of the Colon/Large Intestine can prevent stagnation and minimize the exposure of potential cancer-causing agents to the Colon walls, which absorbs them into the portal vein system, which flows them up to the Liver and ultimately into the blood.

In addition to people reporting the relief of symptoms such as asthma, allergies, arthritis, head aches, back/neck aches, lethargy, low sex drive, skin eruptions, blurred vision and foggy thinking, people report increased feeling of well-being, heightened energy levels and renewed vitality.

The importance and necessity of Colon care in the prevention of disease is rapidly gaining recognition in the medical community.  Colon Hydrotherapy is available and is often suggested by medical and naturopathic doctors.

Colon Hydrotherapy on Kauai

There are four known methods of Colon Hydrotherapy. The first is the use of an enema bucket. The second is the use of the enema bucket and Colema Board. The third is the "open system", which is the same principle as the Colema Board and enema bucket – gravity 'powered'. And the fourth is using high-tech equipment, commonly known as the 'closed system. (See Levels of Colon Hydrotherapy.)

At A Center for Well-Being we use state-of-the-art, high-tech equipment which means premium service for you. This equipment affords gentle, thorough, cleansing of the Large Intestine/Colon. Sterilization occurs after each treatment and there is a built-in check valve, which prevents wastewater from returning to the water supply.  Disposable hoses and speculum (small insertion tube) are used for each individual, eliminating any possible contamination.  Water temperature and amount of flow are highly calibrated and regulated through the use of a control knob by highly trained, qualified and certified therapist.

We begin with a thorough individual assessment and evaluation of environmental, immunological, and psychosomatic influences. Based on this information, appropriate therapeutic procedures are discussed and an individualized program is devised and agreed upon.

Goals of service include:

  • Efficient elimination of waste
  • Restore proper Large Intestine (Colon) functions
  • Balance colon chemistry

Encourage clients to realize that they are ultimately responsible for their own health

Foremost abdominal surgeon, Sir William Arthabut Lane said.  'There is but one disease and that is deficient drainage.'  Leading health researcher, expert nutritionist and iridologist, Dr. Bernard Jensen said,  'Life and death begin in the colon.'

Sessions:

The first recorded history of colon hydrotherapy was 50 - 500 B.C. - using goatskin bags and reeds. People innately knew the necessity of regular, good Colon hygiene. The Colon Hydrotherapy process is the safe, gentle, effective process. It is the inflowing of body-temperature filtered water into the rectum and the out flowing of this water along with toxic feces, gas, mucus and bad or 'unfriendly' bacteria.  This is a restorative, painless procedure that is relaxing and hydrating for the whole body. While giving constant, close attention to you, the therapist monitors the temperature and rate of flow of the water.  This closed system method provides the highest degree of sanitation and avoids offensive odors while maintaining the dignity of the individual. This client-centered process incorporates the body's wisdom along with the expertise of the certified therapist.

Using the latest, high-tech equipment, colon hydrotherapy is more complete and comprehensive than an enema. The enema's cleansing activity often is limited to the area of only the rectum and lower Descending Colon, due to the body's natural wish to expel waste material. Colon Hydrotherapy extends beyond the rectum to cleanse the entire Large Intestine/Colon and offers greater cleansing and therapeutic benefits.

Approximately 8 to 15 gallons of water are used during the procedure, but only 2 to 3 pints are maintained internally at any time.  If it is not heavily impacted with plaque, the Colon can easily hold 80 ounces of pure water, though some people's Colons can hold much more.

The Colon contains the largest concentration of bacteria in the body. The entire digestive tract is host to more bacteria, beneficial and non-beneficial, than the number of cells in the entire body.  The healthy bacteria provide important functions, such as synthesis of folic acid, B-vitamins and vitamin K from foods.  These good bacteria also decompose proteins and carbohydrates, resulting in the production of toxins.  When some of the toxins are absorbed, because of sluggishness and stagnation in the colon, they can be potential sources of disease elsewhere in the body.  Waste material allowed to stagnate alters the proportion of healthy bacteria to disease-producing bacteria.

Colon Hydrotherapy has a dissolving-of-feces and therapeutic effect in the Colon/Large Intestine, whereby waste material such as feces, gas, mucous and infectious secretions are eliminated through the rectum.  The result is a cleaner, healthier Colon and improved overall health.

Four Levels of Colon Hydrotherapy

Level One

The first recorded history of any type of colon cleansing was 50-500 B.C. Artifacts found indicate that the people of that time used goatskin bags and reeds to assist their body in evacuating fecal wastes. We have progressed to using medical-grade enema buckets – much preferred over the red bags sold in most drug stores.

Level Two

The Colema Board is used along with an enema bucket. The Colema Board is a smooth plastic "board' that one end is put on a chair which is slightly higher than the toilet, and the other end is put on the open toilet, so that the wastes can flow into the toilet. A person lies on the board while administering the enema to one self. This method is somewhat more relaxing (thus more releasing) than just the enema bucket.

Level Three

The Open System of Colon Hydrotherapy uses the same principles of Level Two, but the 'board' or table is curved so that the person's body sits up at a reclining angle and the knees are also up. Instead of just an enema bucket, the "bucket" is larger and enclosed in a panel. The water inflow and temperature are regulated by knobs, rather than just the pinch clamp of the enema bucket. This is also known as the gravity system – gravity is what makes the purified water flow.

Level Four

The Closed System of Colon Hydrotherapy totally closed. Commonly used are massage tables with bolsters to provide the reclining, relaxing position. The high-tech equipment affords pure water temperature control, rate of water flow control, AND the inflow and outflow of pure water. In this way, pure water can flow into the body, around fecal matter and gas, and then flow all this matter out. The water is purified by 4 filters and an ultra-violet light before entering the equipment. The exit of the equipment is plumbed directly into the drain.
